Scarlet Passion Burlesque
Tonight I have the honor of performing at Scarlet Tea Room in Pasadena. It's a beautiful little tea house that's celebrating its fifth anniversary. I'm performing a classic fan dance, and there are other classic performers and a chanteuse. This is a great introduction to burlesque for those who aren't ready to see pasties yet, as we're keeping our ta-tas covered. For more information, visit here.

And More Burlesqueland
This is a photo of my Cruella deVil act from Burlesqueland! at Peepshow Menagerie this year. Photo by Markus Alias.
Burlesqueland! has become the first burlesque festival for Los Angeles. Here's hoping for even more shows next year!

Sassy Classy Review
"Red Snapper's Sassy, Classy Burlesque Revue" was covered by Fine Arts LA. The entire review is very complimentary of the performers and the show, which is wonderful for me as a producer. I'm very proud of the show and pleased with the talent I've been able to snag during its short life. (Photo by Holly Go Darkly)
I also got a nice blurb as a performer:
The next Sassy Classy is in two months!
I also got a nice blurb as a performer:
The show’s producer and name-sake, Red Snapper, arrived on stage next, ushering the audience into the second half of the night—the more experienced girls. Snapper was obviously a crowd favorite, more than comfortable strutting around in a pair of garters and stockings, doing a kind of naughty 50’s housewife parody. The supposed female empowerment associated with modern burlesque became more apparent in Snapper’s performance. She possessed a definite control over her own teases, an excited familiarity with her routine that translated into a kind of feminine pride.

New Tagline
I have a new tagline. My "sass, class and a black girl's ass" doesn't play in all markets, and it especially doesn't play when I follow a gal who has a bigger butt than me. While I'm still using that tagline, I've been announced as "The Go All the Way Girl" a couple times in the past week. I like the sound of it.

Corset Bits & Pieces
I went downtown with the lovely Evie Lovelle over the weekend to select some fabrics for my new costume. Evie is helping me with the majority of the costume, and Anastasia von Teaserhausen is making the corset. We had to shop for fabrics for the corset lining and outside that would work well with the rest of the costume, but that were still neutral enough for the corset to be incorporated into other numbers. The fabric at the bottom is for the outside of the corset. The fabric on the right is the lining and on the left is for the binding.
Anastasia is working her creative fingers to the bone right now to finish my corset within the week. She's done such a wonderful job and is sending me picture message updates. Today I got a photo of the corset with the busk installed. It's absolutely gorgeous. The fabric color in the top photo is truer, but the bottom photo shows you how wonderfully she matched the pattern. Anastasia's work is beautiful. I really look forward to the end product.
If you'd like to contact Anastasia for your corset needs, shoot me and email and I'll pass your info along. :) msredsnapper/gmail.

Burlesqueland: Day Three
I'm late in posting this. Again, I'm a terrible person. I was part of a creative tornado last week. :)
I was only in the audience for the third night of Burlesqueland at Monday Night Tease last month, but I still managed to make the "paper" with Mr. Snapper, Evie Lovelle & her husband. Check out the slideshow here.

My Meditation
Everyone has their own little backstage ritual. When I was younger and just did theatre, I'd listen to music and spend a great deal of time methodically applying my stage makeup. When I started performing in the real world, the venues weren't as available for the lengthy makeup application, and all of these shows have more performers than mirror space. I like to ground myself so I'm fully prepared for what is about to happen.
I don't really get nervous before I perform unless I have no idea what in the hell I'm doing (which has happened). I consider myself a vessel for the words or music I'm about the share on the stage. I am a means of communication. Before I go on, I center myself and let the worries of day-to-day human existence fall away. I have a little meditation before I take the stage, a knowingness that this is the only time I'll ever have this particular experience. This is the only time the audience will have this exact experience with me. Once I leave the stage, that shared experience is over. I must enjoy every part of it because this same event will never happen again.
I remind myself how lucky I am to make money doing something I love.

"The Flower Parade"
This is my painted breast cast to be auctioned off at Tiki Oasis. It was beautifully painted by tiki artist Ken Ruzic. It's called "The Flower Parade." I couldn't have asked for a better pairing. Check out Ken's other works here.
The Letter Follies: April Edition
I am pleased to announce that I am officially a regular performer at The Letter Follies! There has been a line-up change. Lucille Highball (Striptease Symposium graduate) is filling in for Holly Rock-It. I'm doing a fan dance at the early show and a new boa number at the late show, implementing some of the choreography I taught my beginner class so they can see how it can be used. It's always a fun time, and it's the only Los Angeles burlesque show that allows for money being thrown on the stage.
