HOLLYWOOD — Regional celebrities  Mr. Snapper and Mr. Buddy (they originate from a very small region) proudly and brazenly announce the rescheduling of their next variety showcase, THE MR. SNAPPER AND MR. BUDDY RUMPUS REVUE IN: “FESTIVE CRACK-UPS”.  This paganesque cacophony of sight, sound, and half-naked women was previously scheduled for April 15th, but will now be found thrilling audiences at the historic Theatre Asylum on April 29th, mere blocks from where Buster Keaton’s movie studio once stood!
“The time is ripe to really shake things up in Hollywood,” said Mr. Snapper, balancing a piano bench on his chin.  ”This is a jaded town; a cynical town.  You have to give the suckers something they’ve never seen before.  So we are rescheduling our show.  Bam!  Suck on that, Hollywood!”  Mr. Buddy, his silent partner, looks up from his hookah and nods in blissful, unknowing agreement.  His hookah smoke smells of cinnamon and hashish.  Mr. Buddy blows a series of oddly shaped smoke signals and passes out.  Mr. Snapper interprets, “Ah.  Also, we forgot to put out a press release the first time.  Our mistake.”  At this point in the interview, the piano bench falls violently to Mr. Snapper’s face, knocking him to the ground.  ”One more thing,” Snapper struggles to say as blood pools on the floor, “it’s BYOB.”
Mr. Snapper and Mr.Buddy invite you to resurrect frivolity and join them for an evening of song, variety, half-naked women and hubba hubba! Snapper, a ukulele playing songster, and his silent foil, Buddy, are your hosts, making a barely capable attempt at maintaining order as the libidinous passions of a group of ragtag performers rage wildly out of control!  Jacob Smith returns as the irrepressible Pistachio the Mime.  Burlesque from Red Snapper, the balloon art shenanigans of Rob the Balloon Guy, the musical magic of Elizabeth Luttinger, and the trombone musings of Sean Pawling round out the evening.  Also, special appearances by the Los Angeles Light Orchestra and the Craigslist Wildcard (literally whatever variety act answers the ad on Craigslist first). Burlesque "Flash" Mob

This is what I did last night.  You can see bits of the choreography I teach in my beginner class through Striptease Symposium.  We were booked to perform for a sneak preview of the new burlesque film.  This was a first performance for some of these kids.  Everyone did a wonderful job!

Kind of a Big Deal

I've been a little occupied lately.  We did Inglorious Burlesque at Monday Night Tease! on August 23rd, the 3rd Annual Tarantino Burlesque Tribute.  It was sold out for the third year in a row.  You can see the LA Weekly slideshow here.

Mr. Tarantino heard about our show and wanted us to do the production for him at a private event last Sunday.  So we did, and it was an amazing experience.  I didn't get to speak with him directly since it was such a busy event, but I was told by others that he very much enjoyed our twist contest.

I still haven't come down from this high.  I hope we do the show again next year and that we see him again for it.

Fringe Fest Freaks

Here's a photo of me with the Hollywood Fringe Fest freaks from last week's fundraiser.  (That's a lot of f's in one sentence for me without at least one being a swear.)

I also got a mention on L.A. Theatre Review for my performance at the fundraiser.  I'm very fortunate to be able to support things dear to my heart, and theatre is one of those things.  I encourage you to visit the website for Hollywood Fringe Fest and take in some shows this summer.  You can catch me in The WRONG Show as Eva Braun in "I Was a Teenage Hitler" (and they guy who plays Hitler is so HOT!).

Aw Shucks!

I decided to Google myself after my husband Googled himself and discovered he was up for another playwriting award.  I found a wonderful promotion of my beginner class from January.  The blurb that was particularly wonderful was:

If you’ve always been intrigued by burlesque, you can dip your toe in the hot, sexy water with this 6-week class (scroll down to “Beginner Burlesque”) offered by the illustrious Red Snapper herself, who’s run with the icons of burlesque and absorbed all their tricks and tips. 

I've "run with the icons of burlesque and absorbed all their tricks and tips."  Nice.

I also found where the LA Weekly covered Monster Girls of Burlesque.  (I may have already posted the link to the slideshow.)

I really should make a regular habit of Googling myself.

Sassy Classy Review

"Red Snapper's Sassy, Classy Burlesque Revue" was covered by Fine Arts LA.  The entire review is very complimentary of the performers and the show, which is wonderful for me as a producer.  I'm very proud of the show and pleased with the talent I've been able to snag during its short life.  (Photo by Holly Go Darkly)

I also got a nice blurb as a performer:

The show’s producer and name-sake, Red Snapper, arrived on stage next, ushering the audience into the second half of the night—the more experienced girls. Snapper was obviously a crowd favorite, more than comfortable strutting around in a pair of garters and stockings, doing a kind of naughty 50’s housewife parody. The supposed female empowerment associated with modern burlesque became more apparent in Snapper’s performance. She possessed a definite control over her own teases, an excited familiarity with her routine that translated into a kind of feminine pride.

The next Sassy Classy is in two months!

Burlesqueland: Day Three

I'm late in posting this.  Again, I'm a terrible person.  I was part of a creative tornado last week.  :)

I was only in the audience for the third night of Burlesqueland at Monday Night Tease last month, but I still managed to make the "paper" with Mr. Snapper, Evie Lovelle & her husband.  Check out the slideshow here.

Burlesqueland: How I Pretty Much Ruled

I do love seeing fan responses to shows, especially when they're favorable.  One Burlesqueland attendee posted a brief review of the show here.  I even got a blurb:

Burlesqueland: Day Two

We spent Thursday at Disneyland with other burlesque performers and enthusiasts.  We wound up in a different mix of people than last year, which is a great way to get to know other people in the community.  OC Weekly caught up with my group for a few minutes before Mr. Snapper and I left for the day.  You can see the slideshow here.

There's also this incredible map of Burlesqueland designed by Chris Beyond.  (Have I mentioned how much I love being the poster girl for this event?)

It was an absolute pleasure to spend the day with these folks.  My tour included the following attractions: Indiana Jones, Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean (which we we stuck on for about 45 minutes), Captain EO, Small World and Tiki Room.  We had a delicious lunch at Cafe Orleans midday consisting of Monte Cristo sandwiches and garlic fries.  What a wonderful day!
