Biscuits & Gravy Tour: Broads and Panties in Ft. Worth

I spent the Saturday night I was in Texas performing at Broads and Panties in Ft. Worth.  This wonderful show was put together by my dear friend and hostess, Vivienne Vermouth.  We performed at Landers Machine Shop, a grubby but progressive venue in the warehouse district.  I performed my fan dance (photo by Lou O'Neal) and my Stepford Wife number.

Touring is wonderful.  I met so many performers from Texas and Oklahoma at this show.  Since I closed both sets of the evening, I got to see most of the performers do at least one number, some I saw twice.  I met some absolutely delightful folks then spent the early morning having breakfast with them after the show.  Different shows, different circumstances, different people.  Ft. Worth is pretty darn humid this time of year, so I was "glowing" the entire night.  I was so sweaty that I couldn't untie my bra top and wound up tearing the tie so the audience could get the final reveal they deserved for sitting in that heat.

I look forward to my return trip to Texas this winter.  I can't wait to see these lovely people again.

Maiden-esque

Iron Maiden-esque tonight at the Rainbow Bar & grill, 9015 Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood.  Doors 11:30pm, show at midnight, $5 cover.  See Iron Maiden cover band Aces High with live burlesque!  You'll see me do something here that you won't see anywhere else.  :)

Biscuits & Gravy Tour: Snapper Does Austin

Most of my second day in Texas was spent en route to Austin.  I did get a pit stop on the way at one of my favorite restaurants, Cracker Barrel.  I enjoyed a sugar ham biscuit, scrambled eggs with cheese (is there any other way to have them?), fried apples and hashbrown casserole.  It was absolutely heavenly.  I also stocked up on snacks and souvenirs for Mr. Snapper from the gift shop.  (Most of the souvenirs I brought home for him were snacks from Cracker Barrel.)

We hit the road for trafficky Austin, and Vivienne and I were not disappointed by the amount of traffic (meaning there was a lot, as predicted).  We enjoyed a wonderful meal at Stubb's before the show.  (Here's a photo of my BBQ pork sandwich, best with cole slaw inside the sandwich, and potato salad to the side.)  I devoured everything on my plate before hitting the dress rehearsal for the big show.

The Kings N Things 8th Birthday show was tons of fun.  Here's a photo of me backstage after my performance and before I went back out to man my merch table.  My hair made quite an impact on the audience.  I had an absolute blast performing.  It was my first experience with drag kings, and it was absolutely delightful.  It was a successful merch experience as well.  I discovered it's handy to have inexpensive buttons available on the merch table so newly made fans can take a little bit of Snapper home with them.

Biscuits & Gravy Tour: Dynamite Dames Photoshoot

A few short hours after I arrived in Texas, my dear friend Vivienne Vermouth whisked me away to the studio of Dynamite Dames in Dallas.  Vivienne did my makeup and Sarah of Dynamite Dames styled my hair.  I modeled a latex bikini by Zamra Dollskin and a vintage gown and hair accoutrements by Decadent Dame Designs.  You only get camera phone pics here for right now.  I'll share some of the final shots when they're available.

Let me just say that if you ever get the opportunity to shoot with Dynamite Dames, jump on it.  Sarah is so down to earth and friendly.  I look forward to shooting with her again.

Down & Dirty and Go All the Way With Red Snapper in Denton

I'm giving you a little "inside baseball" on these classes.  Go All the Way gives one the tools and techniques to connect with an audience and tackle nervousness.  A lot of research went into these techniques, and it's a class packed with information.  Down & Dirty is a movement class that deals with sensuality, hypnotizing an audience and slow floor work.  I love imparting this knowledge to others, and both classes will leave you with something unique that you can immediately put to use.

Texas Magazine Cover

I'm on a magazine cover!  Go check it out.  There's an article by the wonderful Vivienne Vermouth inside about this weekend's Dallas metro activities ... with me!

What It's Like Being a 'Naked Girl Reading'

Sunday night I was part of the Los Angeles premiere of Naked Girls Reading.  When I spoke to people about the event, they had a vague idea of how it worked.  There was this consideration that it was somehow more complicated than the name suggests.  It wasn't.  We were naked girls.  We read aloud to the audience.

Nudity is not foreign to me.  I've also been reading aloud since I was five, so this seemed like something I was born to do.  We had a comfortable set-up on the stage and plenty of beverages so we wouldn't be parched while reading.  It looked like we were in living room.  We took a couple breaks, but we all took turns reading aloud from various books, actively listening to one another when it was no longer our turn to read.  I enjoyed a naked outburst of laughter as Polly Peabody read her original short story based on the film Footloose.

I think the event is something of a novelty -- getting to go watch naked girls read to the audience.  It's a fun, aesthetic and moderately sexy storytime.  I look forward to the next event.

Naked Girls Reading: "The Naked City"

Naked Girls Reading is a group of beautiful ladies who love to read naked. That's really it. There's not a whole lot more to it. Should there be?

There's something beautiful, something altogether more intimate, about a woman reading pretty much anything in her, well, altogether. It's just that simple. So why are we still talking about it? Because people can't seem to accept its simplicity.

Naked Girls. Reading.

or Girls Reading. Naked.

However you need to explain it to yourself is fine. And while you do, we'll be over here reading.

Naked.

NAKED GIRLS READING is launching its Los Angeles chapter and in celebration we will be reading the works of Los Angeles Writers as well as lurid writings about "The Naked City" itself.

While this is not a burlesque event, this show will have some of the best burlesque performers in Los Angeles as our featured readers, including Scarlett Letter, Polly Peabody, Red Snapper, and Panama Red.

Naked Girls Reading began in Chicago in March of 2009 as the idea of International Showgirl Michelle L'amour and Franky Vivid. The idea had rolled around in their heads for a few years in different formats, but with the opening of Studio L'amour in 2008 it materialized as the perfect intimate live event.

After the very first event it was obvious to all in attendance that something big had just happened, something spiritual. Immediately, the press took hold and emails started coming in from cities all over the country from ladies interested in starting their own franchise.

Starting on May 16th of 2010, Naked Girls Reading will begin events in Los Angeles on a bi-monthly basis.

VERY LIMITED TICKETS available at:

There is absolutely no photography allowed at this event.

Mega Costume Advisor

This is Evie Lovelle's cat, Albert.  He's actually one of three but he's the one who charges after me like I'm some kind of snack.  I think he knows I'm allergic to cats.  Anyway, Albert decided to help Evie with my Mega Costume last night.  He's pretty cute.

Denton Sketchy's

I'm in Texas late this month, and I'm doing an edition of Dr. Sketchy's in Denton.  This is your little "save the date" if you're in the area.  I'm also teaching two classes earlier that day.  You can learn floor work in "Down and Dirty."  I cover how to win over an audience in "Go All the Way."  Stay tuned, kids!

Aw Shucks!

I decided to Google myself after my husband Googled himself and discovered he was up for another playwriting award.  I found a wonderful promotion of my beginner class from January.  The blurb that was particularly wonderful was:
If you’ve always been intrigued by burlesque, you can dip your toe in the hot, sexy water with this 6-week class (scroll down to “Beginner Burlesque”) offered by the illustrious Red Snapper herself, who’s run with the icons of burlesque and absorbed all their tricks and tips.
I've "run with the icons of burlesque and absorbed all their tricks and tips."  Nice.

I also found where the LA Weekly covered Monster Girls of Burlesque.  (I may have already posted the link to the slideshow.)

I really should make a regular habit of Googling myself.

The Letter Follies: May Edition

This month holds adventure and excitement!  I'm dancing to a song I absolutely love that I swear you've never seen me do before.  I'm also whipping out most of the number that goes with Mega Costume (minus the pieces that are incomplete).  Two great shows and a guaranteed fun time.  You'll see things here you won't see at other burlesque shows.  :)
